The majority of women in America wear a size 16 or more, but there is still a huge shortage of fabulous plus size brands, especially for special occasions like your cousin’s wedding. It can be frustrating when friends recommend fun new brands – only to find they reach size 18 (if they do). To fend off those feelings of disappointment, there are nine retailers here that make gorgeous plus size wedding dresses that aren’t just oversized LBDs or shapeless caftans.

This UK-based retailer is one of our all-time favorite places to shop for so many different things – trendy shoes and bags, swimwear for those with long torsos or large busts, fun maternity clothes – but they also have a phenomenal range of plus sizes, including more formal ones Dresses that are perfect for any dress code, in sizes 12 through 26. Even better? The majority of ASOS offerings are under $ 150. There are cute bridesmaid dresses and simple chiffon gowns, as well as sequin wraps and brightly patterned minis, so you’re sure to find something that suits your personal style.

Anthropologie only started offering expanded sizes (up to 26W) in early 2019, but it proved so successful with buyers that they continued to expand the collection each season. That means, of course, that you need to add an array of gorgeous dresses, inspired by the retailer’s eclectic boho vibe. Most of the colorful styles work well for a cocktail or a semi-formal event, but there are definitely options for black or white tie events too. Most dresses are under $ 300 (there are tons of cute options between $ 100 and $ 150 too), including a few more classic or timeless pieces from Anthro’s wedding-specific line BHLDN.

While we usually go to Eloquii for more casual pieces, the plus-only label also makes enviable occasion wear. Are you ready for the good news? Everything costs less than $ 160 and comes in sizes 14-28. There are countless colorful patterned midi dresses, overalls made of satin and sequins. Each season’s new releases always include a few classically chic black formal options to choose from for just about any event on your calendar. (Hot tip: Nordstrom also has some of the brand’s best pieces.)

For buyers looking for a designer number that is guaranteed to impress, we recommend 11 Honoré. The luxury site only sells plus sizes 10 to 26 from high-end brands like Carolina Herrera, Reem Acra, Diane von Fürstenberg, and Brandon Maxwell (a Lady Gaga and Meghan Markle favorite, so the price is higher than the other stores on this list – Dresses range from $ 150 for more casual options to $ 4,000 for gala dresses – but we can’t think of any other website that offers such a wide range of plus-size designer pieces.

You may not know this brand by name, but you’ve probably seen Adrianna Papell formal sheaths and sequin dresses as you’ve scrolled through Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s, or even Anthropologie. The label was launched in 1980 with the aim of creating beautiful occasions for all women, not just for women with a large budget and small waists. The designs definitely tend on the formal side, with sequins, embroidery, and beads galore, but there are also some casual options for cocktail or beach weddings (like the floating flower number pictured above). Prices start at around $ 150, though you can often find dresses for sale if you’re on a tight budget and capped at just under $ 400. And everything is available in sizes 14-26 (you can also buy dresses in size 12 or smaller locally).

Despite its quirky name, Show Me Your Mumu is a phenomenal destination for finding party gowns and bridal shower dresses. Sizes range from XXS to 3X, and almost everything is under $ 200. Dresses with sequin detailing or lace plating cost a little more, but if you’re looking for a solid or flowery number to wear for multiple events, this is a good place to start. There are tons of colors to choose from too, including timeless hues like blush pink or black, as well as more trendy hues like sage green, burnt orange and deep plums.

Oh Nordstrom, we love you so much. The retailer has an ever growing collection of plus size styles from size 14 / XXL to 28W / 4X including active wear, work wear, jeans and of course wedding ready dresses. There are certainly some sexy party options out there (see Lavish Alice Mini above), but the majority of Nordstrom’s wedding guest options have a more humble, classy feel to it. Think intricate lace sleeves and longer hems that are more in line with Kate Middleton’s style than Kate Moss. With Nordstrom stocking such a wide range of brands, designer dud prices range from under $ 100 to $ 1,000.

ModCloth is known for its charming retro atmosphere. But even if you don’t count Zooey Deschanel or Reese Witherspoon as your style icons, this website has a ton of classic, non-whimsical designs. Almost every piece costs less than $ 200, and most of the clothing is available in the brand’s full size range from 00 / XXS to 28 / 4X. ModCloth’s choices are definitely more casual, better for semi-formal or dapper occasions than black ties, but there are a handful of fancier options out there if you’re a big fan of the brand.

OK, so you can’t buy pieces from Rent the Runway (unless there’s a sample sale on the site), but unless you want to clutter your closet with another wedding guest dress, you’ll only be wearing it once or twice, Rentals are definitely something to consider. Anthropologie and Eloquii also offer rental subscriptions, but Rent the Runway has two big perks that the other two don’t: one-time rentals and a wide variety of evening wear. Sizes only go up to 22 (fingers crossed, RTR is soon expanding its size range), but you can get stunning designer pieces from brands like Badgley Mischka, Marchesa Notte and Christian Siriano for a fraction of their retail price. We’re also happy to add a second size for free if you’re not sure how a particular item will fit.
