PETALING JAYA, March 30 – Malaysian entrepreneur Neelofa impressed fans after it was revealed that 5,000 Swarovski crystals and other high-quality materials were used in the manufacture of her wedding dress.
Fashion designer Alia Bastamam told mStar that 32-year-old Neelofa had a clear idea of what she wanted to look like on her wedding day, which was held on March 27 at an upscale hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The bespoke dress was designed with the concept of the “Greek Goddess” in mind and a veil inspired by an Arabic hood.
“Neelofa had a clear idea of what she wanted for her outfit, and she wanted lots of lace and pearls without going overboard or missing out on the details.
“We had to make sure it was a perfect creation that was easy to carry,” said Alia.
Alia, who also designed model Alicia Amin’s bridal look in February, used eight meters of French lace with three different patterns to give Neelofa’s dress an elegant touch.
She then added 5,000 Swarovski crystals and ostrich feather tassels to the outfit to give it a touch of opulence.
Neelofa also shared a video on her Instagram yesterday documenting the design process for her wedding look.
“The dress, the decorations. As perfect as I imagined, ”she wrote.
Neelofa, who married religious preacher PU Riz last weekend, made headlines over the extravagance of her ceremony, which included candles from Parisian brand Diptyque lighting guests’ tables and Lancome skin care as a door gift.
The media hype surrounding the wedding wasn’t always for the best of reasons, however.
Police are currently investigating the event for possible Standard Operating Instructions (SOPs) violations after photos of guests sitting shoulder to shoulder at the wedding went viral on social media.
