I’m not currently in the wedding dress market, but even I am delighted to hear this week’s announcement that Vera Wang is now designing dresses for Pronovias, the Spanish wedding giant. This means that the previously unattainable becomes accessible – and larger weddings are back on the agenda as well.
Over the past 30 years, the 71-year-old Wang-owned label has developed into a Rolls-Royce for wedding dresses. Even if her sculptural, dramatic statements don’t quite match your personal style, you have to admit that she is a modern-sized maestro (she calls it “American couture”). Wang, chosen by Victoria Beckham, Alicia Keys, Chelsea Clinton, Lily Aldridge, and a group of the inevitable Kardashians on their wedding days, carried a hefty price tag.
However, by October it will be available to millions of women. Her Vera Wang Bride collection for Pronovias is £ 1,160- £ 2,900. This is not couture – as in one-offs built from scratch – but Wang, a famous perfectionist, is “excited” about the offspring of her own marriage to the mega-brand. “And believe me, I am not easy. The process was really fun. I can’t believe I’m saying this during a pandemic. But that’s because of Pronovias’ exceptional manufacturing capabilities. “
